With many fantasy football championships taking place in Week 16, it can help to find a “diamond in the rough” to help guide teams to winning their leagues. The same goes for Week 15 when most semifinals took place.
Below are Week 15 fantasy stars who were likely unowned. In order to be eligible for the list, the player must have been owned in fewer than 25 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues entering their games. Fantasy stats were taken from ESPN.
Quarterback – Sam Darnold, Jets
It was the first time, in Darnold‘s 11 starts, during his rookie season, that he threw multiple touchdown passes without an interception. His 253 passing yards in Week 15 are the third-most he has thrown for in a game, while his 35 rushing yards accumulated are a season-high. Sports Illustrated lists Darnold as a streaming option for Week 16.
Running back – Jamaal Williams, Packers
Aaron Jones was forced to leave in Week 15 with a sprained MCL, allowing Williams to take his spot. With Jones becoming Green Bay‘s bell cow, Williams had just 43 rushing and 14 receiving yards in his last five games entering Week 15. He beat both totals on Sunday, finishing with 55 rushing and 42 receiving yards, while scoring on a 10-yard run in the third quarter.
Running back – Wendall Smallwood, Eagles
After averaging nearly nine carries and slightly over two receptions from weeks 2-8, Smallwood had recently become a forgotten man in Philadelphia‘s backfield. In the five games from weeks 10-14, he had a grand total of just four carries. Smallwood had 10 on Sunday night, totaling 48 yards, and he scored twice.
Wide receiver – Robby Anderson, Jets
Since a 123-yard, two-touchdown outing in Week 5, Anderson had averaged just 3.3 catches for 43.5 yards and just one total touchdown in his six games played. His seven catches in Week 15 were a season-high, while he also finished with 96 yards and a touchdown.
Wide receiver – Robert Foster, Bills
Foster likely will be one of the most-added players for Week 16. On Sunday (December 16), he finished with 108 receiving yards and a touchdown. That is now four times in the last five games that the undrafted rookie has recorded at least 94 receiving yards.
Tight end – Garrett Celek, 49ers
It wasn‘t a great week for tight ends, but Celek finished second among all tight ends in fantasy scoring. He had just two catches, but one of them was a 41-yard touchdown reception from Nick Mullens in the second quarter.
